Would I be the bad guy if I refused to cook a big dinner for my in-laws who invited themselves over this weekend?
My husband's parents told us last night that they're coming by on Saturday. They didn't ask first, they just said they would be here around six. I already have a busy weekend and we normally don't do big meals for drop-ins, so I am thinking about letting them know ahead of time that we won't be cooking a full dinner.

I would still offer snacks or suggest we order pizza, but I am not planning on spending hours in the kitchen for a surprise visit. I feel guilty because they are family, yet I also feel like our time and money should be considered.
My husband says his mom will be hurt and that I should just make something simple, but he is not the one doing the shopping or cooking. If I send a polite message now, it will give them time to adjust their plans. I keep going back and forth on whether standing my ground here makes me the difficult one.
